names.co.uk is now a certified B Corp

ESG, names.co.uk news

We’re delighted to announce that names.co.uk, as part of the team.blue Group, is now B Corp certified. Becoming a Certified B Corporation means joining a global community of businesses that are committed to using business as a force for good – with social, environmental and governance performance independently assessed against B Lab’s standards.

For us, certification is not a finish line. It is recognition of the progress already made across team.blue UK&IE, and a framework that will keep challenging us to make thoughtful, measurable improvements in the years ahead.

What does B Corp mean?

B Corp Certification assesses a company’s impact beyond financial performance. B Lab’s framework looks at how businesses affect people and the planet, alongside governance and accountability. Certification is designed to give customers, employees and other stakeholders greater confidence that responsible business practices are embedded in how a company operates.

Headshot of Vanessa De Waele, Group Sustainability Director

“B Corp isn’t a sustainability programme, it’s a business model, one that grows the impact for every stakeholder. Seeing the UK & IE team take this on and deliver it with flair is exactly the kind of ownership I want to see in every business. We are now counting three B Corp certifications across the group, onto the next!”

The progress behind our certification

Our 2024/25 Impact Report captured the work already underway across team.blue UK&IE. It organised our approach around three pillars: sustainable tech, digital inclusion and digital trust. Here are five of the key highlights that show what that looks like in practice.

1. Lower impact technology

Our primary UK data centre has been powered with 100% renewable electricity since 2021. 100% of our company vehicles are hybrid or electric, and 100% of our end-of-life servers were recycled or reused rather than sent to landfill.

2. Better measurement and accountability

We strengthened carbon data collection so office and data centre energy use could be tracked more precisely. Scope 1 emissions fell by 86% from 2023, while the report also openly records increases in Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and explains where better data or further action is needed.

3. An inclusive place to work

Across our organisation, 50% of new hires were female and female representation at leadership level reached 34%. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training achieved 94% completion, while Mental Health First Aiders and wellbeing-focused Lunch & Learns added practical support for colleagues.

4. Supporting our communities

At Group level, a step challenge raised €18,000 for MOVE Europe, supporting disabled children and young people. Locally, sponsorship of Nunnery Wood United helped create a safe football environment for 20+ women and supported the launch of an under-18 girls team.

5. Customer care and digital trust

A formal quality-assurance process was introduced in February 2025 to strengthen customer service, alongside an Advanced Technical team for more complex enquiries. We also continued to strengthen information-security governance and achieved 100% participation in cyber, AI and data-privacy training, with an 87% completion rate at the reporting point.

Why this matters to our customers

When you choose names.co.uk, you are choosing a business that is making responsible business practice part of how it operates – from the energy and infrastructure behind digital services, to how we support our people, protect customer information and contribute to our communities. B Corp gives us an external framework for that commitment and helps us stay accountable as expectations continue to rise.

What happens next?

Certification gives us something to celebrate, but more importantly it gives us a platform for continued improvement. We will keep measuring our impact, being transparent about where we are making progress and where more work is needed, and using the B Corp framework to inform decisions that affect our customers, colleagues, communities and the environment.

Thank you to our customers, colleagues and partners for being part of the journey. We’re proud of this milestone – and even more excited about what comes next.

B Corp FAQs

A Certified B Corporation is a for-profit company that has been assessed against B Lab’s standards for social, environmental and governance impact. The certification is intended to show that responsible business practices, transparency and accountability are built into how the company operates.

B Lab is the organisation behind B Corp Certification. Its standards are developed and governed with independent, multi-stakeholder oversight and are designed to define responsible business practices across social, environmental and governance topics.

It means names.co.uk has completed the relevant B Corp certification process and met the applicable requirements. For customers, it provides external recognition of our commitment to consider the wider impact of our business – not only commercial results.

No. Environmental performance is important, but B Corp is broader. The framework also covers people, communities, customers, governance, accountability and responsible business practices.

B Corp Certification is not simply a self-declared label. B Lab’s certification model requires evidence and verification against its standards. B Lab has also introduced updated standards and a transition toward independent third-party assurance for certification.

No. B Corp is designed around ongoing accountability rather than a one-off award. B Lab’s current standards framework includes continuing requirements and review during the certification cycle, so certified companies need to keep demonstrating progress and conformity.
