This is to ensure that you are using the correct login credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unsure of your email password please use the following guide to reset it:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/articles\/how-to-change-your-email-password\/\">How to reset my email password<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also need to ensure that you have purchased our&nbsp;<strong>Authenticated SMTP<\/strong>&nbsp;package &#8211; without it you will be unable to complete the setup. To upgrade to this service please either use the&nbsp;<strong>Upgrade Options<\/strong>&nbsp;within your Control Panel, or call our team on&nbsp;<strong>0345 363 3634<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you know your email password and have activated Authenticated SMTP, let&#8217;s proceed with the setup in Gmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, click the cog on the right hand side, and choose&nbsp;<strong>Settings.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step1.png\" alt=\"gmail step 1\" title=\"gmail step 1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the&nbsp;<strong>Accounts and Import<\/strong>&nbsp;tab, select&nbsp;<strong>Add an email account.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step2.png\" alt=\"Gmail step 2\" title=\"Gmail step 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter your&nbsp;<strong>Email address<\/strong>&nbsp;and click&nbsp;<strong>Next.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step3.png\" alt=\"gmail step 3\" title=\"gmail step 3\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With&nbsp;<strong>Import emails from my other account (POP3)<\/strong>&nbsp;selected, click&nbsp;<strong>Next.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step4.png\" alt=\"gmail step 4\" title=\"gmail step 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter your&nbsp;<strong>Email address<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Email password<\/strong>&nbsp;as the&nbsp;<strong>Username<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Password<\/strong>, respectively. Enter&nbsp;<strong>pop3.hosts.co.uk<\/strong>&nbsp;as the POP Server and use the recommended settings provided below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then click&nbsp;<strong>Add Account.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step5.png\" alt=\"gmail step 5\" title=\"gmail step 5\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the next page click on&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>&nbsp;to setup your outgoing mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step6.png\" alt=\"gmail step 6\" title=\"gmail step 6\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the&nbsp;<strong>Name<\/strong>&nbsp;that you want to appear in your emails. Click on&nbsp;<strong>Next Step.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step7.png\" alt=\"gmail step 7\" title=\"gmail step 7\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete the&nbsp;<strong>SMTP Server<\/strong>&nbsp;settings and use your&nbsp;<strong>Email address<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Email password<\/strong>&nbsp;as the&nbsp;<strong>Username<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Password<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use&nbsp;<strong>Port 465<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click&nbsp;<strong>Add Account.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step8.png\" alt=\"gmail step 8\" title=\"gmail step 8\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You will then be sent an email to your email address with a&nbsp;<strong>Verification Code.<\/strong>&nbsp;Enter your unique code in the box shown below, and click&nbsp;<strong>Verify.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Step9.png\" alt=\"gmail step 9\" title=\"gmail step 9\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Your email account is now setup.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nco-info-block\"><p class=\"nco-info-block-content\"><strong>Important Note \u2013 Moving from POP3 to IMAP<\/strong><br><br>Switching an email account from <strong>POP3<\/strong> to <strong>IMAP<\/strong> changes how your emails are <strong>stored<\/strong>, <strong>synchronised<\/strong>, and <strong>deleted<\/strong>.<br><br>With <strong>IMAP<\/strong>, emails remain stored on the <strong>mail server<\/strong> and are mirrored across <strong>all devices<\/strong>. Any action taken in one location \u2014 such as <strong>deleting<\/strong>, <strong>moving<\/strong>, or <strong>organising<\/strong> messages \u2014 will automatically apply everywhere. Deleting an email on your phone, for example, will also delete it from your desktop and <strong>webmail<\/strong>.<br><br>Under <strong>POP3<\/strong>, emails are downloaded to a <strong>single device<\/strong> and can be <strong>removed from the server<\/strong>. Deleting a message only affects that device, which can create differences between devices but also prevents global deletion.<br><br>Changing from a <strong>POP3 connection to IMAP will result in existing locally stored emails not being present on the server<\/strong>, and messages can be <strong>permanently deleted or lost if they are not backed up beforehand<\/strong>, depending on how the email client is configured.<br><br>To prevent <strong>permanent data loss<\/strong>, you <strong>must create a full backup of your mailboxes before making this change<\/strong>.
