Demon Email: How to Update an Existing POP or IMAP Account

This article will explain how you can update your existing IMAP account email address and username on your mail application with the new settings which will replace the existing Demon Email Address and Demon Username field.

Please note that we do not provide comprehensive support for third party email applications, and these guides are simply provided out of courtesy.

Your new username has been emailed to you, for the avoidance of doubt if your email address was hello@names.demon.co.uk and you have purchased names.co.uk your new username would be hello@names.co.uk

1. Open Outlook 2003.
2. Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'E-mail Accounts...'
3. Select 'View or change existing e-mail accounts,' and click 'Next.'
4. Select your mail account, and click 'Change...'
5. Replace the existing settings with your new email address.

User Information
-User Name: Your email address


Logon Information
-User Name: Your email address


We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open Outlook 2007.
2. Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Account Settings...'
3. Select your mail account, and click 'Change...'
4. Replace the existing settings with the ones below:

User Information
-User Name: Your email address


Logon Information
-User Name: Your email address

10. Click 'Ok' to apply the new settings.
11. Press 'Next' to test account settings and complete the setup.

We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open Outlook 2010.
2. Click 'File' at the top left.
3. In the 'Info' category, click 'Account Settings', and then click 'Account Settings' in the dropdown.
4. Select your mail account, and click 'Change...'
5. Replace the existing settings with the ones below:

User Information
-User Name: Your email address


Logon Information
-User Name: Your email address

11. Click 'Ok' to apply the new settings.
12. Press 'Next' to test account settings and complete the setup.

The instructions below apply to Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016 (first release) if you have recently updated Outlook 2016 to the later version please see the article below.

1. Open Outlook.
2. Click 'File' at the top left.
3. In the 'Info' category, click 'Account Settings', and then click 'Account Settings' in the dropdown.
4. Select your mail account, and click 'Change...'
5. Replace the existing settings with the ones below:

User Information
-User Name: Your email address


Logon Information
-User Name: Your email address

Alternatively please see instructions below:

1. Open Outlook 2016 / 2019.
2. Click the 'FILE' (top left) and select 'Account Settings'
3. Click on 'Manage Profiles'
4. Click on Email Settings
5. Select your "Demon" account and click on "Change"
6. Update the following fields with your new email address:

USER INFORMATION:
Your Name: Your email address
Email Address: Your email address

LOGON INFORMATION
Email Address: Your email address

Click on "MORE SETTINGS"

GENERAL TAB - replace your existing Demon Email address with your new email address.

Click on OK and NEXT to complete the update.

We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open Windows Live Mail
2. Select the email account you want to change on the left hand side.
3. Select the 'Accounts' tab, and then select 'Properties.'
4. Select the 'Servers' tab, and replace the existing settings with the following:

-E-mail Username - Your email address

5. Click on General tab and then update the following:

-E-mail Address - Your email address

Click on Apply, we recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open Mail.
2. Select 'Mail' at the top, and then 'Preferences'.
3. Select the 'Accounts' tab at the top (if not already opened).
4. Click on the existing account.
5. Under the 'Account Information' tab, click on the 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)' drop-down menu at the bottom, and click 'Edit SMTP Server List'.
6. Click on the 'Advanced' tab, and apply your new email address.

-User Name - Your email address

7. Click 'Ok' to save and close the SMTP settings.
8. Back in the 'Account Information' tab, please update the existing settings with the following:

-User Name - Your email address

9. Select the 'Advanced' tab, and ensure the following settings are entered:

-User Name - Your email address

10. Close the Accounts/Preferences window to save the new settings.

We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open the Settings application.
2. Tap Passwords & Accounts.
3. Select the existing mail account.
4. Select the top option which is simply called Account.
5. Replace the following setting:

-User Name - Your email address

6. Select Account at the top left to go back.
7. Select SMTP just above the Advanced option.
8. Update the current settings with the following:

-User Name - Your email address

9. Select Done at the top right to verify account settings.

We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect.

1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
2. Right click on the existing email account, and click 'Settings'.
3. Click 'Server Settings' on the left side menu.
4. Update the existing settings with the following:

-User Name - Your email address

5. On the left hand side menu, scroll down and click 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)'.

6. Select the existing SMTP server, and click 'Edit...'
7. Updating the existing settings with:

-User Name - Your email address

8. Click 'Ok'.

We recommend restarting your application for the new settings to take effect. Your account is now ready to send and receive from your new email address.

Through our in-house testing the Windows Mail Application does not allow the username to be updated, for this reason you would need to use the "Add Account" option and create the new account using your new email address as the username and your email password.
